Appcelerator Acquires leading IDE Aptana

Today has been an exciting day for web developers worldwide and especially for the Appcelerator and Aptana communities.

Appcelerator and Aptana have joined forces to offer web developers the best combination of a platform for developing web, desktop, mobile and tablet applications along with the best set of tools for designing, developing, and deploying native cloud-connected apps.

Aptana has established itself as the leader in enterprise-grade Eclipse tools with over 6,000,000 downloads and millions of developers. Aptana is known for having the best development tools for Ruby on Rails (RadRails), Python (Pydev) and of course JavaScript.

As we look towards building out a complete app development solution, one thing we’ve heard loud and clear from our developer community is the need for better tools that tie into the platform and bring enterprise-grade features like debugging, code completion, integrated document, and editing tools. Aptana has made great strides in all of these areas, and they’ll be a great addition to Appcelerator Titanium.

We’re also really excited to have the entire Aptana Studio team join our ranks. They’re already moved into our offices and are hacking right alongside the Titanium developers.

We plan to have a beta of the new Titanium/Aptana Studio product available in late March. If you aren’t already an Aptana Studio user, try it for yourself (You’ll love it).

I also invite you to join me tomorrow morning for a live webcast to discuss the acquisition. I’ll have Aptana’s founder, Paul Colton, on the call with me, and we’ll be happy to answer your questions. In the meantime, we have an FAQ available to provide answers to some questions you may have.

Talk to you tomorrow,

  1. Whoa! Didn’t see that coming … although it’s obvious when you think about it. Javascript debugging and code completion … and a good platform for visual UI design going forward.
